How do you contract a Male Yeast Infection?
Yeast infections are considered by most to be a problem for women, but males can contract them, and they are not pleasant. There are three types of Candida infections a man can suffer from, penile, oral, and anal. The causes of these infections are most often related to sexual activity, but there are other ways to contract them. Some can be easily prevented, while others are symptoms of other more serious conditions.
Sexually, a man can be infected by his partner. In a heterosexual relationship the male can get it from a female with an active Candida infection while practicing unprotected sex. In alternative lifestyles, a man can contract a yeast infection anally while having sex with another man using a condom with certain types of spermicidal lubricants. Yeast infections can also be transmitted orally and result in oral thrush, a painful condition that is easily identified by lesions and white spots in the mouth.
Men and women in long-term committed relationships often pass Candida back and forth for what seems like perpetual periods of time. To break that cycle, the infection needs to be cleared from both parties before re-engaging in any unprotected sexual activity. This may cause a temporary inconvenience, but it’s a small price to pay to eliminate the constant discomfort of Candida.
Prolonged antibiotic use can also cause male yeast infections. The male body manufactures a certain amount of yeast just like the female body does. The production levels are kept in check by bacteria, organisms that are destroyed when antibiotics are introduced into the body. These antibiotics may kill whatever infection you have, but their presence can lead to an increase in yeast production in the body.
Diabetes is another potential cause of yeast infections, and perhaps the most difficult to avoid. Diabetics have to deal with a chemical imbalance related to the body’s production of insulin. Stabilizing this imbalance often leads to secondary conditions like Candida. Speak to your doctor if you are experiencing chronic Candida and get some medical advice on diet and other steps you can take to prevent it. There a number of products on the market designed to combat Candida. Perhaps one of them is the right one for you.
