Pink Eye Cure

just a quick note… if you have pink eye, you don’t need antibiotic drops from the doctor (unless you really want them). If your eyes are red, watering, and itching or burning just take come colloidal silver and place 1 drop in your eye 2-3 time daily.  If you wear contacts, don’t wear them while you have an infection.  I just got an eye infection of some kind (eye lids were swollen, the eye was hot, red, itching all over).  4 doses of colloidal silver later and the itching, burning and redness is entirely gone.  The swollen eyelid is about 90% improved.

Just thought I would let you know an inexpensive and quick treatment for pink eye!
You can get an excellent Silver called Silver Shield from us – we have seen this stuff work absolute wonders.

Series: Chlorinated water may cause Candida – Part 6 of 6

If you are on city water it is very possible that the water you use in your household in chlorinated.  If you aren’t filtering your water to remove chlorine, you should go right out and get a Brita filter or some other filtering device.  The Chlorine chemical is a halogen and in gas form it can literally kill you – having this is your drinking water isn’t a good idea.

The reason that chlorine is added to city water is to disinfect the water supply by killing bacteria that are present in the water.  Doesn’t it make sense that if chlorine kills bacteria in water, it will also kill bacteria in the digestive tract.  Unfortunately, most of the bacteria in the digestive tract are beneficial bacteria that are absolutely essential in helping our digestive system to work well. Without these bacteria (probiotics), your digestive system will start to have problems.  Without these bacteria, you may be constipated, bloated, in pain; and, without these bacteria your intestinal tract is vulnerable to candida overgrowth.

Fluorine is also added to many city water systems to help kill bacteria and to help with providing strong teeth.  Fluorine is as bad if not worse than chlorine.

Chlorinated (and sometime fluorinated) water is so prevalent in city water systems that I begin to wonder if there is a correlation between the introduction of chlorine and fluorine and the rise to epidemic proportions of candida in our population.

Here’s what to do to prevent exposure to chlorine:

1. If your water is chlorinated and/or fluorinated get a filter to get these chemicals out of your drinking water.   Of course, a filtration system for your entire house would be ideal, but often this is not practical. A filter for drinking water is a positive step!

2. Get some beneficial bacteria into your system to replace the good guys you have lost.  Here is a great probiotic that will take care of this for you – EPS Jarrodophilus.

3. If you are showing signs of a candida overgrowth (candida symptoms), get started on a candida cleanse and you’ll be feeling better very quickly!

Series: Birth Control Pills cause Candida – Part 5 of 6

Birth control pills work by introducing extra hormones into a woman’s system.  Most birth control pills contain both estrogen and progesterone; these hormones work on the reproductive system in such a way that an egg is not produced during the month.  As estrogen is a candida feeder, the extra hormones in the birth control pills may cause candida to overgrow.  Although I do not feel that birth control pills create a lot of candida at one time, they can cause candida to overgrow slowly because you are taking the pills month after month, year after year.  This cumulative affect is what will get you in the end.

However, it is possible to fight candida while on birth control!  Because it causes a relatively slow growth of candida, you can get on top of the candida overgrowth by doing a cleanse and then staying on maintenance doses of probiotics once you have the candida under control.

Series: Things that Cause Candida (HRT/Hormone Imbalance) – Part 4 of 6

Hormone Replacement Therapy is used by many women over the age of 47 or so to fight menopausal symptoms such as night sweats, hot flashes, and vaginal dryness.  Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) works by providing extra estrogen to the body to replace the hormones that are now lacking in the body.  For some people, it has been miraculous in how well it helps the body to manage the symptoms of menopause.  However, a lot of women struggling with hormone imbalance will also have to battle candida because too much estrogen in the system will feed candida and cause it to grow. In fact, one of the primary side affects of premarin, a common HRT drug, is yeast infections.

The female body is not just about getting as much estrogen into your body as possible to counteract the affects of getting older, the female body is all about BALANCE of the hormones.   Balance is often not easy to achieve. There are generally 4 categories that women fall in to if their hormones are out of balance.

The first category and most common type of deficiency for women is a progesterone deficiency although estrogen levels are near normal. This type of deficiency occurs in women of all ages.  Too little progesterone makes the amount of estrogen in your system appear to be too much to the body even if the estrogen is at normal levels.  This apparent elevation of estrogen in the body causes the body to create candida.

The second category are people with an estrogen deficiency.  If your progesterone levels are all right a little extra estrogen can be very helpful. The balance here will cause candida growth to be minimal.

The third category are women with excess estrogen. If you have extra estrogen you will want to get off HRT with the help of your doctor. This extra estrogen will cause candida to grow like wildfire and may also be responsible for an increase in the risk of heart attacks, stroke, breast cancer and blood clots.

The fourth category are women with estrogen dominance. This occurs when you do not have enough progesterone to balance the estrogen in your body. So, even though you may have too little estrogen if your progesterone levels are even lower your body will think that you have too much estrogen as it looks at the ratio between the estrogen and progesterone in your body to determine where you are.  Estrogen dominance makes the body think that you have too much estrogen and candida will grow yet again.

Hormone imbalance are described very well at John Lee’s site on Hormone Imbalance.  There is a questionairre on this page that may provide some insight to whether or not you are struggling with a hormone imbalance of some kind.  The only way to really know where your hormones are at is to take a saliva test that analyzes where your estrogen levels are.  Since a woman’s body may cycle through the month (depending on your age), the very best test to get is one that tests saliva every few days over the course of a month.

I did a test like this a couple of years ago and found that I had a condition called PCOS.  I had tons of extra estrogen, virtually no progesterone to balance the estrogen and a lot of testosterone, as well.  It was no wonder that I had difficulty keeping my candida under control.  Understanding that I had PCOS allowed me to make a number of changes (adding progesterone, taking some estrogen reducers, adjusting my diet to reduce the carbs I was eating, and taking supplements like iodine) to get the PCOS under control so I could get rid of the candida for once and for all.

HRT is usually a simple approach – add estrogen and you will feel better. But, our bodies are not that simple.  HRT may actually be making things worse in the long run.  Now-a-days doctors are beginning to recognize that HRT treatment should just be a temporary thing; consider taking HRT for only a couple of months instead of for the rest of your life.

Understanding what your hormones are truly doing may be surprising and will enable you to understand where chronic candida concerns are coming from and give you the knowledge to get your candida under control.

Series: Things that Cause Candida – Part 3 of 6

Okay, so this one is a pet peeve of mine.  Why? Because tetracyclines are pushed on young people in their teenage years to combat a condition already caused, to some degree, by candida… i.e. acne.   Some of the worst candida cases that we work with are caused from the prolonged use of tetracycline based antibiotics.

Tetracyline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to fight bacterial infections and is commonly used to treat acne and rosacea according to Wikipedia.  It is sold under the brand names of Doxycycline, Minocycline, Sumycin, Terramycin, Tetracyn and Panmycin and others.   Treatment with a tetracycline for acne can and usually does continue for many months and this is where the main problem lies.  Using an antibiotic over long periods of time completely obliterates any beneficial bacteria that you have in your digestive system.  Not having these good bacteria in place will allow candida, parasites and bad bacteria to grow unchecked which can cause severe problems down the line.  Most young people will not know that they need to replenish their beneficial bacteria nor would they have the patience to do that correctly any way.

Believe me, I completely understand the frustration that acne produces as I have dealt with this condition in my adult years; but, Tetracyclines can be dangerous in so many ways.  Please, don’t let your kids take antibiotics to treat acne  – treat it in more natural ways.

Series: Things that cause Candida – Prednisone – Part 2 of 6

Prednisone is a life-saving drug and its use can help people who are seriously ill.  In fact, I recently had a friend with pulmonary distress who needed to be hospitalized because he literally could not breathe because of his asthma-like symptoms.  The hospital staff administered IV prednisone and essentially saved his life.  I also understand that people with autoimmune diseases like Lupus, Colitis and Crohn’s also need to take prednisone on a daily basis.  However, prednisone is one of the most prolific creators of candida and here are the reasons why.

1. Prednisone is an immunosuppressant that acts on almost the entire immune system. This is why it is used to treat autoimmune diseases and inflammatory conditions like asthma, ulcerative colitis, crohn’s disease and dermatitis.  However, suppressing the immune system is one of the factors that will allow candida to grow relatively unchecked. You see, candida is normally kept in check by the immune system. If the immune system is suppressed, candida will and DOES grow.

2.  A side affect of prednisone is the suppression of the adrenal glands. This is one of the reasons why you must decrease the amount of prednisone you take slowly if you have been taking prednisone for longer than 7 days.  If you were to stop the prednisone cold turkey, you could develop Addison’s disease which is when the body no longer produces the adrenal hormones.  Adrenal glands are very important in maintaining proper amounts of blood sugar in the body and the suppression of the adrenals may cause this regulation to go haywire causing larger amounts than normal of glucose to accumulate in the blood stream. Of course, this increase in blood sugar feeds candida that is already growing because of the immunosuppression that prednisone causes.  This effect is particularly prevalent in people already struggling with diabetes, but may affect those without diabetes as well.

Please keep in mind, I am NOT advocating that a person not take prednisone or get off it if you are taking it.  You should never stop prednisone without the help of your doctor.  I just want you to understand that if you are taking prednisone, especially for long periods of time, that you are creating candida, too.  The combination of a suppressed immune system, high sugar levels in the blood stream and the length of time that one is on the prednisone is an incredible combination of factors that can lead to the creation of very large candida populations in the gut.  In our experience, candida is caused more quickly with prednisone use than with a course of very powerful antibiotics.

Series: Things that cause candida – Part 1 of 6

Candida is prevalent out there – more than you would guess. Surprisingly, it is possible that 85% of the people in the USA have a candida concern.  For most people, candida is not enough of an issue to be a problem, the body can actually handle a small overgrowth. However, there are a few instances where the right set of circumstances come together to create the perfect candida-growing environment and then the body gets overwhelmed and needs help.

You have to keep in mind that candida overgrowth does not occur overnight.  Sometimes it may seem that you go to bed one night perfectly healthy and when you wake up in the morning, BAM, there is candida staring you in the face. It doesn’t really happen that way, though. Usually you have been setting the ground work for years, possibly even decades.

In this series, I am going to discuss the different causes of candida. The first of six is the most obvious one – antibiotics.  Antibiotics can be lifesaving and they certainly serve a useful purpose.  However, every time you have an antibiotic you are setting the stage for candida to take over.  You see, antibiotics kill bacteria.  They are supposed to do this – the infections that they treat are bad bacteria that can run rampant and cause a lot of harm, even death.  However, antibiotics are not smart enough to differentiate between bad and good bacteria.  So, for good measure, they kill off ALL of the bacteria.  The more doses of antibiotics you take (over your lifetime) the less good bacteria you have in your system.

Back in the day (prior to the late 1800’s), this was not a problem – we could gets lots of good bacteria from the fermented foods that we ate.  Fermenting our foods was one way to preserve them; of course, this was quite convenient when you didn’t have a lot of refrigeration.  In fact, we used to eat a lot of fermented foods like sauerkraut, and raw dairy products such as milk, yogurt, and sour cream. In the 1860’s, Louis Pasteur invented the pasteurization process which reduced the live bacteria in milk, beer and wine products to minimize souring and prevent disease.  This became a federally mandated process and just like that a large source of beneficial bacteria was gone.  Now, unless you own your own goat or cow, it is very difficult to find raw milk with all of those wonderful and very needed bacteria.

Since we don’t have that fermented food any more, we need to fill that void purposefully.   You must replenish your system after taking antibiotics with a good probiotic (good guy bacteria) – there really isn’t any other convenient way to do it.  Unfortunately, most of us don’t do that or even if we do, we probably don’t take enough probiotic to really do the job of getting our digestive system back in balance.

These beneficial bacteria are very important to the body. They help you to digest your food, they create B vitamins, and their presence will not allow pathogenic organisms, like candida, to grow.  With a reduced number of bacteria in your digestive tract, you have no protection and candida albicans, a yeast organism which is not affected by antibiotics, can start to overgrow. Even worse, antibiotics will actually cause the candida yeast to morph into a fungal form.  This fungal candida will grow small tentacles, called rhizoids, which will burrow into the intestinal wall and hold on.  This can lead to leaky gut syndrome, which we will discuss another time.

Antibiotics can be life-saving and, if you need them, you should take them.  But, do yourself a favor. Don’t take antibiotics unless you absolutely need them and ALWAYS replenish your “good guy” bacteria after taking even a small dose of antibiotics.

Note: Good probiotics to take for replenishment:
Nature’s Sunshine Probiotic Eleven (6 billion, 11 strains)
Jarrodophilus, EPS (4.4 billion, 8 strains)
For Kids under 4, UDO’s Choice Infant’s Blend (1 billion, 7 strains)

Foods that you can make/eat that are rich in probiotics:
Kombucha Tea, Kefir, Cultured Yogurt, etc.

To your GOOD health!

How LONG does it take to get rid of my candida?

Although most people want to know the most effective way for them to kill candida, the next question on their mind is how long is this going to take?

Well, it is going to take a while.  Candida killing is not something that can occur overnight.  There are some things you can take (Diflucan, for example) that will offer pretty quick relief, but I feel that Diflucan only causes the symptoms to subside – it doesn’t necessarily have a long term effect.  You must consider that the digestive tract can contain candida along all of the nooks and crannies in both the small intestine and large intestine.  Candida does tend to colonize, but it is rarely in just one spot, it tends to be distributed rather unevenly through the digestive system.  If you were to unroll and flatten out the intestinal tract, it would be about the size of a tennis court. You can’t expect to do a thorough candida scrub and have it just take a day or two.

All in all, a natural (meaning not pharmaceutical) candida cleanse may last between 2-6 months.  Most people tend to average around 3-4 months on a natural regimen. In general, the longer you have had candida, the longer it will take to get rid of because it will be entrenched in the system.  If you have just taken a round of antibiotic and need to get rid of any yeast created by this but were having no trouble before, 2-4 weeks should suffice.

One thing that will speed a cleanse on its way is to take a soluble fiber (psyllium, oat bran, acacia, guar gum, apple pectin) or clay supplement – you can even take both, if you wish. These types of products help the bowel to detox candida by sweeping it out of the bowel and absorbing toxins that the candida puts into the system.  Don’t forget that candida has 70-80 different chemicals it produces as waste products that your body must deal with. The most common waste products of candida are: formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and ethanol. Loclo Fiber (psyllium-based) or gluten-free Clarifiber will minimize the impact of cleansing reactions (healing crises) because many of these reactions are caused by dead candida and toxins in the system.  These may shorten a cleanse by as much as a month and make your more comfortable as a side benefit – a very good investment!

8 Reasons why you need Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is an important vitamin that is needed for 10 different reasons.  We are supposed to get our Vitamin D3 through sun exposure, but so many of us work indoors now that it is hard to get the amount our body needs.  Even when we are in the sun, we cover up with sun screen lotions for fear of developing skin cancer.  As a result, many people are very deficient. It is virtually impossible to know what your vitamin d3 levels are without a blood test to confirm it.  I found out this summer that I was very low in the amounts of vitamin D3 available in my blood stream. I spent last summer getting caught up and am looking very forward to warm weather so I can continue natural production of vitamin D3 in the summer sun.

Here are 8 reasons why we need vitamin D3:

1. Vitamin D3 plays an important role in bone building by allowing the uptake of calcium in the body.
2. It is important for healthy immune function; it may lower your risk of catching a cold and may also fend of the influenza viruses.
3. It has been linked to the prevention of diseases like multiple sclerosis, arthritis, and cancer.
4. Vitamin D3 may help prevent asthma and allergies especially in children.
5. It may help maintain mental agility in older people.
6. A sufficient amount of vitamin D3 may prevent joint pain and osteoporosis.
7. Vitamin D3 may play an important role in weight loss.
8. It may even act as a natural protector from low levels of radiation.

Vitamin D3 IS something that you can get too much of. You should be under the care of a medical practioner who routinely checks your blood levels if you want to take more than 5,000 IU per day of Vitamin D3.

Get started with a good vitamin D3 supplement during these winter months. http://stopyeast-store.com/vitamind3.aspx

Vitamin D enhances your immune system

I ran into an article today that talks about the benefits of vitamin D. Apparently, T Cells, the immune system’s killer cells, rely on vitamin D to become active.  If vitamin D is not present, the T Cells will not recognize the presence of a pathogen or infection and will not activate themselves to fight the condition.  Vitamin D deficiency is becoming quite common in the USA and Canada as more and more of us are spending more time indoors or slathering sunscreen on every time we venture outside.  The full article is listed here: http://bit.ly/dfIwHo

You can determine if you have a vitamin D deficiency with a simple blood test and it is very easy to supplement with D3.  There are many good quality, yet inexpensive supplements on the market.  We have one at: http://bit.ly/5lSskq

Vitamin D supplementation is very easy to do. You can take quite a bit per day without causing any problems – I take about 2,000 IUs per day as I have a known deficiency.  Of course, you can also expose some portion of your skin to the sun every day for about 20 minutes to get a good dose of vitamin D!

However, you must be aware that Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin and may accumulate in the system. It is wise to be tested occasionally for vitamin D in the blood to make sure that you aren’t getting too much. Vitamin D toxicity usually shows up as too much calcium in the blood.  Symptoms of toxicity may include: nausea, vomiting, weakness, confusion, kidney stones and heart palpitations.
