TOPICAL IODINE

(3 month supply)

Iodine has been called one of the FUNDAMENTAL BUILDING BLOCKS to good health along with water, salt, and soda. Of these 4 items, iodine is perhaps the least understood and the most neglected. Iodine is a key component in our systems and may be responsible for helping with the following: resisting disease, increasing energy, calming the body and releasing nervous tension, detoxinfying the body, reducing brain fog, increasing concentration and focus, hormonal imbalance, fibrocystic breasts, PCOS, low stomach acid, heart arrhythmias, weight gain, ability to sweat, infertility, unexplained weight gain and others... In short, it is pretty incredible stuff. It is inexpensive and easy to administer as iodine can be applied topically. This bottle will last 1 person about 3 months.

People who should NOT use Iodine are only those who are allergic to it which is very rare. Most people need this necessary supplement - approximately 90% of us are deficient in iodine..

Are you deficient in Iodine? There are three methods to check for iodine deficiency.

1. Iodine patch test for iodine (the easiest method):
Place 1 drop of iodine on the skin; let the iodine dry. It will stain the skin.  If the yellow stain from the iodine disappears in less than 7 hours, then you are severely deficient. If it is gone in 12 hours you have a moderate deficiency. If you are not deficient, the patch will stay on your arm for 24 hours and then begin to fade.  The less time it takes to fade the more deficient you are.

2. Iodine Loading Test (urine analysis):
This is the preferred method to test for iodine sufficiency. The general concept is that the larger the iodine deficiency, the more iodine will be retained by the body and the less iodine is excreted in the urine. Iodine will bind to iodine receptors throughout the body, if the body's receptors have enough iodine then there are no receptors available to pick up any ingested iodine. The person being tested is given a significant amount of iodine (50 mg ingested orally) and then all urine is collected over a 24 hour period. The iodine in the urine is measured quantitatively. If an iodine sufficient state exists meaning you have enough iodine, 90% of the iodine will be excreted in the urine. If you are deficient, then your body will utilize the iodine and not nearly so much will be excreted in the urine. Dr Brownstein did a study checking the number of deficient people that saw him; over 90% of them were deficient in iodine, some substantially so.

3. Iodine Urine Test (urine analysis):
This method just measures the amount of iodine in the urine on a one time basis. This is a snapshot of the iodine in your system, but it is not a reliable method. The Iodine loading test (above) is a much more accurate picture of your iodine needs.

Why, you may ask, is iodine important for candida fighting? It is, in fact, quite vital that you have enough iodine and being sufficient will make your cleansing go more easily! The reason why iodine is important in detoxifying is related to the thyroid glands, these are the glands that contain (or should contain) the highest concentration of iodine in the body.. Every 17 minutes all of your blood supply travels through the thyroid glands. While the blood is going through the thyroid it is exposed to the anti-candida, anti-parasitic and anti-viral properties of the iodine that is contained there. The thyroid cleans your blood stream of these pathogenic organisms that do not belong there. If you do not have the iodine supply you need, the thyroid cannot do its job and this makes a candida cleanse much more difficult to get through. So, making sure you have enough iodine will open the detoxification pathways and you are on your way.

How do you know if you need iodine:

1. If you know that you are hypothryroid or hyperthyroid, you need iodine. You can actually take iodine along with your prescribed thyroid medication. The combination has proven to be very effective.
2. If your body temperature is low, your thyroid may be sluggish and you need iodine.
3. If you are struggling with chronic brain fog, concentration or memory problems, you may need iodine.
4. If you have dry/flaking skin, you may need iodine.
5. If you don't sweat easily, you may need iodine.
5. If you have fibrocystic breasts, other breast diseases or hormonal imbalances, you may need iodine.
6. If you have excess mucous product, you may need iodine.
7. If you have headaches or migraines, you may need iodine.
8. If you have had or do have cancer, you may need iodine.
9. If you are fatigued, you may need iodine.
10. If you are hypertensive, you may need iodine.
11. If you have low stomach acid (acid reflux is often attributable to low stomach acid, not high), you may need iodine.
12. If you have heart arrhythmias or palpitations, you may need iodine.
13. and the list goes on...

Not only is iodine an easy supplement to take, it is easy to see how deficient you are by performing a quick patch test every day as you supplement. It is very easy to get caught up and the results can be quite dramatic. I have been called by a number of people who can't believe the difference in the way they feel.

Where did the iodine go? Why are we so deficient.
Sources of iodine are hard to find today unless you eat a lot of seaweed – not something we do here in North America.  In the 1920’s there was a large incidence of goiter, particularly in the Great Lakes area.  It was determined that a lack of iodine was the problem and the United States government began to require that iodine be put into salt in order to reduce the incidence of goiter… and it worked – by 1928 goiter was great reduced.  However, time marches on, and things are forgotten and things are done in the name of health.  The introduction of fluoride to the water is one such example.  Fluoride is a sister element to Iodine – the both fall in the same column (halogen) in the Periodic Table of Elements which means that they are very closely related. However, Fluoride falls above Iodine in the table and will displace Iodine in the body if it is present.  Therefore, drinking fluoridated water displaces much of the iodine that is in the system.  Back in the 1960’s every slice of bread contained about 160 mcg of iodine; but, they took the iodine out of bread and replaced it with variants of Bromide.  Bromide was used because it made the crust of the bread soft; the only problem is Bromide also displaces iodine in the body.  The dairy industry also would utilize iodine when sterilizing the udders of the cows before milking.  A small amount of iodine would get into the milk this way; now, however, the dairy industry now uses chlorhexidine which contains chlorine.  Chlorine is another halogen that displaces iodine in the system.  Of course, don’t forget about all of the communities that now chlorinate their water supplies – you are pushing iodine out of the system every time you drink a glass of water containing chlorine.

Salt is our most obvious source of iodine, but our use of salt in the United States has been reducing drastically for decades because of warnings about salts role in high blood pressure. Even if your salt is iodized, it may not be up to par.  Some studies have been performed that show that the level of iodine in various samples of salt products is not what is advertised and is below the RDA which is already probably low.

So, bread and milk, which used to be rich in iodine, now has no iodine and, even worse, actually leach iodine out of the body.  Iodized salt also seems to have very little iodine in it and people who are health conscious have moved to sea salt which, generally, has no iodine either.  And chlorine from the dairy industry and chlorinated water isn’t helping the situation at all.  It is no wonder that most of the country is deficient (about 90% of us) in iodine.  Iodine supplementation is a must and so easy (and inexpensive) to do!
