Candida albicans is a common yeast found in our digestive system and throat - normally this yeast is not an organism that gives us any trouble and our bodies can take care of an overgrowth easily via the immune system; however, when we are exposed to anti-biotics, birth control pills, corti-steroids, stress or prednisone the good bacteria which normally keep candida under control in our systems are killed off and the candida can overgrow. When the candida yeast gets out of control, it morphs into a mycelial fungal form.

The fungus becomes invasive and grows rhizoids (finger like protrusions) which then burrow into the intestinal wall. These rhizoids leave microscopic holes in the intestinal wall which allows toxins in the form of undigested food particles, bacteria and yeast into our blood stream. To make matter worse, the candida also releases toxins into the system which include formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, ethanol and 70-80 other waste products that the body views as poisons. The first step on getting through this site is to determine if you may even have candida. There are a few ways to do this: 1) evaluating if you may be at risk by your health history, 2) by looking at symptoms, 3) by taking a free saliva test you can do at home, or taking a candida questionnaire.

1) Health History: If you have ever had antibiotics, prednisone, corti-steroids or been under a lot of stress over your life time you may be at risk. Things like Accutane and repeated presriptions of Prednisone are some of the worst offenders and may cause the most chronic candida conditions.
